Configuring a Custom Filter
See Using CygNet Filter Rules for a general discussion on using CygNet filter rules.
To Create A User-Defined Filter
- Open your DDS and double-click the GCM device you want to alter.
- Select Group Filter on the Properties dialog box.
- Type the name of the filter you want to add in the Create field and click Create. This is a free-form text field, so wisely choose your filter name. The newly-created filter appears in the Edit list.
Configuring Group Filter Rule Definitions
To Configure Group Filter Rule Definitions
- Double-click the newly-added filter in the Edit list or highlight the newly-added filter in the Edit list and click Edit.
- Under the Tree View page, define the rule logic you want to use for a newly-added filter by double-clicking No Rules Defined.
- In the Compound Rule Properties dialog box, select either Satisfy ALL of the Rules (AND) or Satisfy ANY of the Rules (OR).
- Select Invert Result (NOT) if you want to filter by exclusion.
- (Optional) Name your new rule using the free-form text field Rule Name.
- Select Enable Compound Rule if you want to enable new compound rule properties.
- Click OK to save your new compound rule properties.
- Under the Tree View page, select Add.
- On the Rule Definition dialog box, open the Data Item drop-down menu and select a data item. Facility Type is the default data item. The Facility Type data item indicates that in this rule definition, nodes in your hierarchy correspond to the Facility Type column in your Facility Service (FAC); only a certain kind of facility qualifies as a node. If you want to use another kind of data item, select one from the drop-down menu and configure appropriately.
- Select an Operator. The default is Equals.
- Select a Qualifier. The default is Case Insensitive.
- Select a Comparison Type. The default is User Value. The comparison type is set to User Value because the Comparison Item field is free-form.
- In the Comparison Item field, type a comparison item. The Comparison Item corresponds to a particular name of the kind of data item you selected from the Data Item drop-down menu. For instance, if your data item is Facility Type, the comparison item is the name of a facility type (in this example, found in the FAC service pane).
- (Optional) In the Rule Name field, type a unique name for this rule.
- When you are finished defining a rule, click OK. A description of your rule logic appears in the Rule Logic field under the Tree View page. Alternatively, you can view it in a different format under the Text View page.
